What to do when your Reddit post starts trending
So you’ve read my marketing post on Reddit and you’ve posted your own content designed to go viral. It’s been about an hour since you posted and you see the upvotes pouring in, it looks like it worked! What should you do now?
Time is of the essence here and you need to capitalize on this massive amount of traffic that is coming your way.
You need a link to your website in the comments ASAP
Ideally some random good samaritan would’ve already posted a link to your game in the comments. That’s great! Because the hard part is already done. Likely that comment is already receiving upvotes and views and you’re seeing huge traffic coming to your website.
But what if nobody posted a link yet? Then it gets a bit tricky.
Get someone to post the link for you (not ideal)
Unfortunately, you’d have to resort to asking a friend to comment on your post. But the hard part is that they cannot be traced back to you in any way. So you have to fake it and make it seem as genuine as possible.
Why? Because Redditors HATE self-promoting and HATE advertisements. So if they sniff out in any way that you are not genuine, then the downvotes will come.
Call a friend and give them the title of your Reddit post and the subreddit. It should be easy enough to find now that it’s trending. Don’t send them the link via a messenger app or text. I think that can be traced back somehow.
Who is the ideal user to comment?
The ideal user is someone who regularly posts in the niche subreddit that your product or game is about. In my case, it’s anyone who browses subreddits like /r/boardgames or /r/tabletopgamedesign.
They would have a good history of both posting and commenting in that subreddit and have been doing it for years. Ideally, the user cannot be traced back to you in any way that’s personal. It’s okay if they are a fan or a customer, that’s probably the best type of user to comment on your content.
What makes a good comment?
Get them to type a short comment and include the link to your website in the comments. Make sure that it doesn’t sound overly preachy or overly positive. Have a good balance of both positivity and negativity.

Give the “Starry Award” to the comment
Once you have the comment and it’s received a decent amount of upvotes, you need to make sure that everyone who sees your post, will see the comment. The best way to make sure it doesn’t get buried in a sea of other comments is to give it an award.
Pay $2 to get 500 Reddit coins so you can buy the Starry Award. This creates a red aura around the comment that makes it really visible and stand out from the other comments.
Make sure that it’s set to anonymous so the user won’t know that it was you who gave them the award.
Make sure that the comment has some upvotes and comments to it before awarding it! You don’t want to randomly award a comment that has 0 replies and 1 upvote. That looks fishy.
Reply to every single comment!
Now is your moment to shine! Everyone is looking at you and your post. They are going to your website and poking around. They are asking you questions and making jokes / memes / comments.
Make sure to take the time to respond to them all! Be sincere. Be humble. Be friendly. That kinda stuff goes a long way in leaving a lasting impression.
