In 7+ years of indie game dev, we have never once sold out at a con, until today.
I’ve been dabbling in indie board game development since 2018, so around 7 or so years. And in that time, I’ve probably attended over twenty different conventions, conferences, and game markets. And never have I once even come close to selling out at any of them.
This past weekend, my wife and I attended Super MAGFest 2025 for the first time. We didn’t know what to expect as we heard many different stories and just went to have fun and maybe sell some games.
I brought 7 boxes of games thinking that I brought way too many since the previous record for most amount of games I sold at a convention was around 20 or so copies.
We sold over 70 copies of my latest game — Love, Career & Magic. And not only did we sell out, but we actually made a profit at the convention. Even accounting for all the expenses like hotels, food, and travel.
After the con, I also posted about it to /r/magfest and was met with a ton of positive comments. My post is now the #1 top post of all time in that subreddit. Not to mention that it currently has a 100% upvote rate at the time of writing this blog entry.
This feels like a huge milestone for me in my game dev career and I am so grateful for all the support. Particularly grateful for all the hard work and help I receive from my wife. Love you!
